It's called "Flashing" because Grandmaster Flash was the first DJ to repeat portions of a song with 2 copies of the same song. In fact, he would repeat "breaks" in popular records like a human sampler. People came to his parties and danced to these breaks. They were called "break dancers."
Fun Fact:
I used to warm-up for about 20 minutes prior to DJing live on the radio. I have DJed live on several radio stations on major markets in the Midwest. I have also broadcast live from several nightclubs. I always am a little nervous at first. The warm-up helps me overcome my anxiety. When I panic and think, "tens of thousands of people are listening..." I just pretend I am at home in my bedroom.
This is some more footage. I was listening to break beat record and heard this sample. I thought of Jam Master Jay rockin' Big Beat on Run DMC's classic "Here We Go."
During the pandemic, like many DJs I streamed live on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitch. I became frustrated because they would mute my mixes due to copyright issues. So I decided make my own songs. LOL. Here is a mix of a few of my tracks.
